Church History
Minister Kendrick Murray served faithfully as a local minister and teacher in an organization for about twelve years. However, irreconcilable differences and unresolved biblical disagreements ultimately led to Minister Murray’s resignation and disaffiliation from that organization.
After departing in 2005, Minister Murray, joined by approximately twenty likeminded Believers, began holding Bible Study sessions in his home. Over time, Minister Murray grew weary and burned out, stepping away from ministry for about five months. During this period, God moved upon Minister Murray’s heart through an Elder, who reminded him of the blessings God had bestowed upon his life, family, business, and endeavors. The Elder gently communicated that Minister Murray was neglecting the responsibility to care for a few of God’s sheep.
Following much prayer, meditation, and guidance from the Lord, Minister Murray resumed teaching at the Holiday Inn Conference Center on Hwy 90. Services continued there for several months until, in 2006, a storefront building on Springhill Avenue was rented, where the congregation worshipped for approximately three years.
The Lord continued to work on Minister Murray, preparing him for the next phase of ministry. God revealed the spiritual and natural blessings bestowed upon him, prompting Minister Murray to accept the calling to teach, shepherd God’s people, and embrace ordination. On February 22, 2009, Pastor Murray was ordained Elder. The Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostles’ Doctrine (Mobile, AL) then had its humble beginnings, with Elder Murray as pastor. The anointing on Pastor Murray’s life increased, accompanied by greater knowledge and wisdom of the scriptures. God stirred up the gift within him, revealing that Jesus is the Son of God and alive!
As the ministry and membership flourished, the congregation was blessed with the opportunity to purchase a building and property at 2764 Mauvilla Drive, where the church thrived for six years. During this time, the Lord moved mightily—souls were baptized, many received the Holy Ghost, and the ministry continued to grow and prosper. Eventually, the congregation outgrew the building and sought new property for expansion.
Amidst this process, Pastor Murray fervently prayed for a new facility, seeking God’s provision without the lengthy construction process. By God’s guidance, Pastor Murray discovered a vacant college online located on Pleasant Valley Road. One rainy evening, he walked around the building, praying for God to grant the facility. A police officer watched as Pastor Murray continued his prayerful walk. In April 2015, God answered his prayer.
The church acquired the 7,500+ square feet property at 3550 Pleasant Valley Road, Mobile, AL. With Pastor Murray’s vision and the dedication of God’s people, the facility was transformed into a beautiful, spacious temple with ample room for growth. Recognizing the need for youth space, a fully functional 2,500 SF youth facility was later added.
God’s blessings continue to abound in this ministry. Multiple auxiliaries, outreach ministries, and departments have been established, including the national and international television broadcast “Son of God Lives with Pastor Kendrick Murray.” The transportation ministry has been equipped with a state-of-the-art customized bus for cross-country trips and vans to transport members to and from the temple.
Under Pastor Murray’s thriving ministry, countless souls locally, nationally, and internationally have been blessed by the preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Many have been baptized in the name of Jesus Christ by Believers in the Son of God, and numerous individuals have received the precious gift of the Holy Ghost. The ministry receives many testimonials, emails, and calls attesting to how the message—Jesus Christ is the Son of God and alive—has transformed lives and brought liberty and deeper scriptural understanding. As taught, members “Believe what we read, chapter and verse!”
As the church continues to flourish, God opened doors for further expansion. In October 2024, a second location was dedicated in Florence, South Carolina, marking a significant milestone and exemplifying God’s faithfulness and the congregation’s commitment to spreading the Gospel. There are testimonies after testimonies of the faithfulness and favor of God during the entire process of searching for a temple, to finding what the lord had for us. Today, the Florence, SC temple sits on 8.2 acres of property. God also blessed the ministry with a church parsonage, a children’s playground, and two guest houses for both sisters and brothers.
The work is growing rapidly both locally and globally. The ministry looks forward with excitement to dedicating additional temples across the country and internationally, God willing.
We remain humbled by God’s grace and favor upon us. Truly, this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our sight. To God be all the glory!
